Our Ethos

The Chain started from a love of vintage combined with Debbie’s seamstress skills and Lucy’s designs. We began hand making clothing in house. At the heart of our ethos we want to encourage conscious consumerism and discourage fast fashion trends. Due to this our wait times are 2/3 weeks on most of our handmade items. Our ready to ship bulks are made in batches of 50-100 pieces to minimilise waste.
Our handmade range is made by our family based team, in our small studio in England. Some of the fabric that we use is printed in a London Mill on materials which are ethically sourced and bought from UK trusted mills where possible. We pride ourselves on working with suppliers who share the the same values. We order only what we we need to avoid any excess waste going in to landfill. We are consistently looking to upgrade our fabric bases and choose the most sustainable option, for that reason we have recently started sourcing some of our fabric from abroad. to enable us to use more cotton based fabrics.
All of our handmade range is identified by this flag.
As demand grows higher for our products, we receive produce from several small factories for our clothing and homeware who pay their staff a fair to living wage based in the USA and China. These items are made in extremely low bulks to avoid waste.
In 2022 we switched to noissue Tissue which is printed with soy-based inks, on FSC-certified paper, and is acid, sulphur, and lignin-free. noissue Tissue is 100% Compostable, Recyclable, and made from recycled materials.
We use 100% recycled mailers, which can be recycled along with carrier bags, or we encourage them to be reused.
